Have you ever wondered where the top high schools in Illinois send their children to for college? This year, Bright Han Times gathered data from the top high schools in Illinois to see where these students are attending college.
First, let’s look at Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA). IMSA got 17 students admitted into the Ivy League. Out of those 17, 8 are attending Ivy League schools. Moreover, many of their students got into top colleges like Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, etc. Their graduating class was 204 students and a lot of these students went to top colleges or Ivy League institutions.
Like IMSA, Northside College Prep has a low number in its graduating class, containing only 260 students. Like IMSA, Northside College Prep has 14 students admitted to the Ivy League. Most of their graduating student body has gone to top colleges like Johns Hopkins University, Vanderbilt University, New York University, etc. Both IMSA and Northside College Prep send their students to top colleges; however, let’s see how they compare to other public high schools, like Stevenson, New Trier, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, and Fremd High School.
A school like Stevenson has an immense student population, around 4000 students. Their graduating class contained 1075 students. Of those numerous students only 10 were admitted into the Ivy League institutions. On the other hand, a school like New Trier had more students accepted into the Ivy League institutions. From data in 2020, 20 students were admitted to these prestigious universities. Next, Glenbrook North High School (GBN) had 5 students admitted into these schools. Similar to GBN, Fremd High School had 2 students admitted into these schools. Finally, Glenbrook South High School had 8 students admitted into these high-ranking schools.
For parents and students, schools like IMSA and Northside College Prep can give their children a better chance to get into a prestigious, top-ranking college. However, high school does not fully guarantee their child getting into a top college. While the school’s program and education may be better than other schools, students must work and study diligently. Statistics do not tell the whole story, but they tell part of the story.
